"His name is Wonderful, His name is Wonderful
His name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord
He is the mighty King, Master of everything
His name is Wonderful, Jesus , my Lord."
This song was written by Audrey Mieir for the Bethel Union Church in
Duarte, California. There is an interesting "the rest of the story" addition to
this hymn.
It was in Philadelphia at the Christian Booksellers Convention of 1970. Mrs.
Mieir was at the booth of her music publisher to help sell the music. She was
there very reluctantly.
Mrs. Mieir talking:
I really was just complaining to myself. I was all ready for the day's activity.
I looked outside through the door. It was about 5 minutes until opening time.
Everyone who gets in is supposed to have proper identification. I saw this
little old lady with a hat and gloves on, and she was very nervous. I could tell
instinctively that she was not a bookstore owner and that she was out of place
in this group. The guard took down the rope which was blocking the way,
and she looked right at me and started coming toward me.
I had the feeling that something very special was going to happen. She came
and stood before me and pushed her hat up and said: "Audrey Mieir, I don't
own a bookstore." I wanted to hug her right then because I just knew.
She ( the little old lady) said, " when I heard that you were going to be here I
asked if I could come in for just one minute. I have something I want to tell
you. I'm almost 80. My husband and I sang together all the years of our lives.
Daddy had a beautiful tenor voice. I sang the melody and he always sang the
tenor. Through our young days we always sang in beautiful and large places.
As the years came and went, our voices began to grow old. Finally, there was
nothing left to sing in but convalescent homes and hospitals. But we gladly
went anywhere we could , because we loved Jesus so much."
"One day my husband, who was a tall, strong man having never had a sick
day in his life, doubled up with an extreme pain. It frightened me to death
because I could never imagine him being sick."
"We rushed him to the hospital and they put him in for exploratory surgery.
They sent me home and said it would be a while before they could tell me what
was really wrong. I sat there in that apartment looking at the walls, and it
seemed like my whole world was crumbling in! Soon came the phone call, '
come to the hospital! Your husband is calling for you. I took a taxi , went to
the hospital, and walked to the door of the room."
"I almost felt as though I was going to faint. I didn't think I could stand to see
him in that condition. I opened the door and looked in and saw him on the
bed. He turned toward me , opened his eyes and his arms and said, 'Mama
come here.' I looked around to be sure no one was looking. He said, 'Mama,
I called you in so that we could sing one more song together.'"
"I said, 'Sing at this time?' He answered, 'Yes, lets sing our favorite song, His
Name is Wonderful. Can you get the pitch?.' He held onto my hand and I
closed my eyes and I got the pitch and started to sing. All of a sudden I heard
this beautiful tenor voice - it was beautiful and clear.
"We came to the words, Bow down before Him," and all of a sudden I was
singing alone. I went on and finished the song. I looked down. He had gone
home to be with Jesus."
And then she said, "I just wanted to thank you for writing that beautiful song
that took Dad home to heaven.
The she reached down and took my face in her hands. I was just paralyzed.
All of a sudden she was gone. I then went behind a curtain and thanked God
for allowing me to write a song that would take someone to heaven.
(As told by George and Carol Jennings)
Going To Heaven With A Song In Your Heart..
When I read of this incident in an e-mail from a friend my heart was touched.
What a way to go to heaven doing what you loved to do with the joy and the
love of Christ in your heart. Every Christian, every believer has this joyous
knowledge.. one day we too will enter the gates of Heaven.. to lift our voices in
praise to the King of kings.. the one made a way for people like us to become
part of His great family.
It is unimaginable to me why anyone would not want to be a Christian. The
Bible says that we can't begin to imagine all that God has prepared for those
who love Him. If that wasn't enough.. we also have the promise of His
blessing on our lives here on earth. Listen, God has plan for your life. If you
follow that plan.. you can live the best possible life you can live. Any other
choice is accepting less than God's or your best. I want Heaven and I want to
have the best possible life here on Earth. A life full of love, joy and peace.
A life that allows me to lay on my death bed and want to sing one more song
of praise for my Lord and Savior Jesus!!
If you don't have that kind of life.. you can. It is simple. Just give your life to
Jesus. How? Romans 10:9-10 says , "That if you will confess with your
mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from
the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto
righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation."
We simply ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins, believe that He can save us and
confess Him (make Him Lord of our lives) and we are cleansed from our sin
and placed on the path to a new and blessed life.
Pray with me, "Jesus, I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins, I give you my
heart and my life and make you my Lord. I believe that you are the risen Son
of God and I will do my best to serve you. Amen."
If you prayed that prayer and believed.. you are now saved. Jesus paid for
your sins with His blood and the Spirit of God came and cleansed you from all
sin and unrighteousness (I John 1:8-9). I encourage you.. call some one and
tell them what you did. Please e-mail me so I can be praying for you. Find a
good Bible believing Church and let them know that you are a new believer.
They will help you to grow in Christ. If you need help in finding a Church
