A Excerpt From A Spurgeon Sermon..
You remind me, some of you, of that story of Dionysus the tyrant, who,
wishing to punish one who had displeased him, invited him to a noble feast. Rich
were the viands that were spread upon the table, and rare the wines of which he
was invited to drink. A chair was placed at the head of the table, and the
guest was seated in it.
Horror of horrors! The feast was rich, but the guest was miserable, dreadful
beyond thought.
However splendid were the array of the servants, and however rich the
dainties, yet he who had been invited sat there in agony. Why? What was the reason?
Because over his head, immediately over it, there hung a sword, a furbished
sword, suspended by a single hair! He had to sit all the time with this sword
above him, with nothing but a hair between him and death.
You may conceive the poor man's misery. He could not escape; he must sit
where be was. How could he feast? How could be rejoice? But O, my unconverted
hearer, you are there this morning, man, with all your riches and your wealth
before you, with the comforts of a home and the joys of a household; you are
there this day, in a place from which you cannot escape; the sword of death
above you, prepared to descend; and woe unto you, when it shall cleave your
soul from your body!

Death Stalks Every Man..
Think of it.. We never know when we shall die. Death is stalking each of
us. He waits in the shadows and then without warning suddenly he is upon us.
Our lives in this world are extinguished. Hebrew 9:27 states, "It is
appointed unto men to die.. And then the Judgment."
The horror of death is not annihilation. The horror of death for the non-Christian
is judgment. We will stand before a just God and have to answer for our lives.
The books will be open and we will have to make an account of our lives. We
will answer to the things that we did wrong. The sins that we committed, the
lies we told, the cheating, the evil thoughts, the hurts.. We are undone. Some
will say I am a good person. You are saying I want justice. Listen, we all know
that we have done evil and we know that we can enter Heaven if we are sinners.
We are all sinners.
What are we to do? We must be changed. We must get rid of our sinful
nature. We need to be new people. We need someone to pay our debt. How does it
happen? Jesus, God's own Son, came and paid for our debt. He who was sinless,
took the penalty of our sins, so that we could be changed. He then sent the
Holy Spirit into this world to change the hearts of evil men to hearts that
want to do right instead of wrong. That same Jesus is reaching out to you. The
only way we can be ready to face a just God is deal with our sinful nature now.
What are we to do? Admit you are a sinner. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
and ask him to forgive you. Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior and begin
life anew by allowing Him to guide you to a better, richer life to the glory of
God!
All you have to do is turn to him.. Right now and say, "Jesus, I believe. Forgive me of all my sin. Come into
my life and be my Lord. I give my life to you. I acknowledge you as the risen
Son of God, who paid for my sin and has made a way for me to be a child of
God." If you prayed that simple prayer.. You are now a Christian.
You prayed because you believed and because you believed.. you are saved. Don't
believe me, look at Romans 10:9-10, and
rejoice.
